To The Beat: Episode 1 - The Music Industry vs. the US

Why do you always hear the same few songs on the radio? It's a question that I'm sure you've asked yourself at least once or twice in the past.
It's no secret that social media has become a bigger influence than ever. Everyone is trying to make their mark online, and music artists are no different. It's imperative that they do so if they want to become successful.
Not just in the US, but artists internationally have been putting themselves out there and making their brands known. Singers and bands who are from the US have had no problems putting themselves in a successful position internationally, but the same cannot be said for the other side.
Why is it that we never hear anyone other than the same five or ten American artists? If social media plays such a big role then why is it that the artists who have successfully made themselves known online are never played? My podcast explores this question and explains possible theories, as well as to the few exceptions to the trend.
About me
In 2017, I became a translator for Japanese to English, and then in early 2018 I started doing Korean to English translations. I'm familiar with the cultures of places outside of the US, but despite all of the diversity that exists in the country, people are still close-minded to the ideas of other places. I've faced judgement from many people before for something as trivial as music.
Many of the artists I listen to have the same ideas in mind, and they intend to change that. Despite all the criticism and backlash they get for being 'different,' they put themselves out there and face all the obstacles in their way.
