Nazis and Their First Amendment Rights
Hi, and welcome to History Chats,
a podcast with a high school student reporting on past controversial events they probably weren't alive for. I'm Jason and making this episode was really fun, and I hope you enjoy it and learn something from it. I really enjoy history, and I want to have other people enjoy history as much as I do. WWII is very interesting to me and it was one of my main reasons for picking this topic. I feel that this is interesting, as it is still prominent today, and that it needs to be shared. There have been a lot of racist displays recently, and this concerns whether or not they are allowed to do that and be protected by the first amendment.
Racism. From Nazis to the KKK racism has been a big part of our society, affecting our judgment and the decisions we make. We are now trying to stop this trend. People like Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Gandhi have all tried to end the judgment and mistreatment of others based solely on their appearanceor heritage, but there are still people who feel very strongly about one other. They were influenced by racist people, and one group still influenced by racist people are the Neo-Nazis, who have shown many displays of their feelings. One of these displays was the attempted Neo-Nazi march in Skokie, Illinois, in 1977. I will be covering how it affected some people living there, and whether or not displays of racism like this are protected under the constitution.
